Day 1

LIMA / INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS

Arrival into Lima at the international airport Jorge Chavez, welcome by our local driver and transfer to the accommodation of our selection*.

*Room available as of 1:00 p.m. (In case of arriving early in the morning, it will be necessary to make reservations the previous night)

Day 2

LIMA / THE CITY OF KINGS - PARACAS

9:00 a.m.: Visit to the historical center of Lima. We will discover the famous San Martin Square, which is a huge square located at the center of Lima, surrounded by monuments and important buildings. In the middle of the square, there is an imposing sanctuary in memory of José de San Martin, the liberator of Peru. Then, we will go to the Main Square by the pedestrian street Union, where the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro founded the city of Lima in the year 1535, under the name “The City of Kings.” In this area, we will be able to contemplate the architecture of this period, appreciate the beautiful balconies and the colonial-style mansions. Around the main square, we can enjoy the Government Palace, the City Hall of Lima, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace.

Visit to the San Francisco Convent, a great architectural structure, built in the 17th century where we will discover and enter the catacombs.

Day 3

PARACAS / BALLESTAS ISLANDS - ICA / OASIS DE HUACACHINA - NASCA (520M)

7:40 a.m.: Discover the Ballestas Islands. Transfer to the port where we will board an outboard motorboat (shared group) towards the Ballestas Islands. These archipelago Peruvian islands at Pisco are a real ornithological reserve where multiple colonies of seabirds and a large number of sea lions live together. Return to the port.

10:00 a.m.: Transfer to the bus station and departure by bus at 10:40 a.m., towards Ica.

12:10 a.m.  : Arrival in Ica, reception by our local driver then transfer to the Huacachina Lagoon at the Curasi Hotel (local representative).

3:00 p.m.: Buggy tour (Spanish speaking pilot). We will leave the oasis towards the west, in direction of the desert, where we will find a wide variety of dunes. The Huacachina Desert offers one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in all of South America, with capricious formations of sand created by the wind and a sublime view to the east of the Peruvian Andes Mountains. After this unique experience, if we wish, we can do sandboarding in the dunes. Return to Huacachina Lagoon.

5:30 p.m.  : Transfer to the bus station and departure by bus at 6:25 p.m., to reach Nasca.

8:25 p.m.  : Arrival in Nasca, reception by our local driver then transfer to the accommodation of our selection.

Day 4
NASCA / MIRADOR & CERAMICS - AREQUIPA (2350M)

9:00 a.m.: Discovery of the Nasca culture. We will depart by private vehicle to the viewpoint of the Nasca Lines, located at 30 km north of the city, where we will observe enigmatic lines from the past. After the visit, we will go back to Nasca to visit a small family workshop where Jhenny has recreated a small universe resembling the ceramic craftsmen of the Nasca era. She will teach us all the stages of the ceramic manufacturing. Return to the accommodation.

1:30 p.m.: Transfer to the bus station and departure by bus at 2:30 p.m., towards the white city of Arequipa.

Dinner at the bus.

Midnight: Arrival in Arequipa, reception by our local driver, then transfer to the accommodation of our selection.

Day 5

AREQUIPA / THE WHITE CITY

9:00 a.m.: Discovery of the white city. Discover the city located at the foot of the majestic Misti volcano, which stands at 5,825 meters above sea level. We will go through the San Camilo market. The discovery of this covered market, the structure of which was designed by Gustave Eiffel, is a special moment that represents a slice of intense and authentic Peruvian daily life. An organized, chaotic setting that looks like a gigantic bazaar, where there is almost everything from multicolored fruit displays to countless varieties of potatoes.

Walk downtown and visit the Jesus Company Church. This set of constructions has several buildings which were built by the Jesuits, for religious and housing purposes, and is considered a monument that is representative of the religious architecture of the seventeenth century (1660).

We will appreciate the architecture of Our Lady Cathedral, which dominates the square, and then we will go to the Saint Catherine Monastery. Built to house the daughters of the most distinguished families of the city who had religious vocations, the monastery was inaugurated on October 2, 1580, under the petition of St. Catherine of Siena, as a center of absolute closure. Return to our accommodations.

Day 6

AREQUIPA - PAMPAS CAÑAHUAS RESERVE - ANDES VIEWPOINT (4910M) - CHIVAY (3651M)

8:00 a.m.: South American Camelid Route. Departure by shared vehicle towards the deepest canyon in the world, the Colca Canyon. We will pass through the Chachani volcanoes to the reserve of wild vicuñas, Pampas Cañahuas Reserve.

We will stop at the Andes Viewpoint, a spectacular site on our way, at an altitude of 4,910 meters above sea level, then descend to the village of Chivay (3,651 meters). Settle into the accommodation of our selection.

Then, we will descend towards the village of Chivay.

In the afternoon, we will discover the thermal waters of La Calera, located 4 kilometers below the village, and relax there. The volcanic origin of this place causes the water to emerge at more than 80°C., but it is tempered to 38°C., in the final basin.

Day 7

COLCA CANYON / CHIVAY - CONDOR CROSS - PUNO (3827M)

6:30 a.m.: Discovery of the Colca Canyon. Transfer by shared vehicle to the Condor Cross, where we will observe, if weather conditions allow it, the majestic flight of the condor, a symbolic bird of the Andean mountains. Departure to Chivay, where we will make several stops at natural landscapes, as well as in the traditional villages of Maca and Yanque.

Depart to Puno. Further ahead, towards Chucura Volcano, it will be possible to observe the viscacha, a nocturnal rodent resembling a rabbit but with a long tail. On the way to Puno, we will appreciate a forest of stones and the Lagunillas Lagoon, where we will observe pink flamingos.

Arrival into Puno and time to settle in at the accommodation of our selection.

Day 8

TITICACA LAKE / UROS ISLANDS - TAQUILE ISLAND - PUNO

6:45 a.m.: Discovery of Lake Titicaca. Transfer to the main port of Puno, where a private boat will take us to Uros Islands, our first destination.

These islands have existed for hundreds of years. The natives of Uros fish, hunt birds, and live off of lake plants, including totoras (reeds), which they use for their boats, homes, and the very foundations of their islands. 

After that, we will sail towards Taquile Island. This island has preserved many pre-Incan remains, as well as Inca ruins and terraces. We will take a hike on an easy path that will lead us to the main square. On site, we will enjoy a communitarian store of traditional clothes and observe the magnificent view of the Bolivian Royal Cordillera. One of the peculiarities of the island is that men knit!

We will descend more than 526 steps to the island’s main port where we will board our boat to sail back to Puno.

Day 9

SUN´S ROAD / PUCARA - RAQCHI - ANDAHUAYLILLAS - CUSCO (3400M)

6:30 a.m.: Route of the sun god Wiracocha. Transfer to the bus station and depart by shared vehicle to the sacred city of Cusco. We will visit the village of Pucara, which was known as an important center for the manufacturing of artisanal pottery, specializing in the famous "toritos de Pucará," terracotta bull sculptures. The Pucara culture flourished between 250 BC and 380 AD. We will visit the lithic museum where granite stelae and monoliths of different sizes are on display.

On the way, we will stop at the Raya Summit, which is the highest point on the road (4,335 meters) and the administrative division between the regions of Puno and Cusco. We will enjoy beautiful landscapes and glaciers, as well as many vicuñas and llamas. In addition, this place represents the point of union between two cultures: Quechua and Aymara.

After the village of Sicuani, we will discover the archaeological site of Raqchi (Temple of the god Wiracocha). This Inca temple has monumental dimensions: 100 meters long, 28 meters wide and 14 meters high.

Our last stop will be at the Andahuaylillas Church, which is also called the "Sistine Chapel of the Andes" because of its decoration. This church is a clear example of the religious popular art of the Andes which amazes everyone with its beauty.

CUSCO / 4 RUINS & HISTORICAL CENTER

12:30 p.m.: Discovery of the sacred city of the Incas. We will visit Our Lady Assumption Cathedral, which is one of the city's main Catholic Sanctuaries. Founded in 1559 under the leadership of Viceroy Andrés Hurtado de Mendoza and the Spanish missionaries, it is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Cusco. We will continue our discovery of the historical center by visiting the temple of Korikancha, which is dedicated to the sun god. Built on the famous temple of Qoricancha, the Inca “temple of the sun” is according to the Incan cosmology, located in the center of the world.

After that, we will go to the Tambomachay site, also known as the "Bath of the Inca." Tambomacha. It has two fountains that are still functional and several niches that could have been used as shelters by the Inca guards.

Then, we will visit the ruins of Puka Pukara, which was a military construction used as a defense system of Cusco under the Inca empire.

A little further down, we will discover Q'enqo. Because of the characteristic, semi-circular structure of the construction, this monument is considered an amphitheater. In fact, the purpose of this construction is unknown, but it could have been used as an altar, court or tomb. It is presumed that it was one of the most important sanctuaries that existed at the time of the Incas.

Transportation to the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a site of great importance for the Incas. Originally built for defensive purposes between the 15th and 16th centuries, the fortress is located at an altitude of 3,700 meters. It has the shape of a puma’s head, a sacred animal in the Inca tradition. Return to the accommodation of our selection.

Day 11

CUSCO - PISAC (RUINS & MARKET) - OLLANTAYTAMBO - AGUAS CALIENTES (2040M)

8:30 a.m.: Discovery of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will depart in a shared vehicle towards Pisac, a village that has many circular agricultural terraces of great fertility extending to the side of the mountain.

Located on a hill, the archaeological complex of Pisac is certainly one of the most beautiful sites in the sacred valley. It was a former royal residence of the Inca Pachacutec and there are two different areas:

  –The residential area, composed of rustic buildings used by farmers.

  –The ceremonial area, which was destined for royalty.

In the upper part of the complex is the Intihuatana, the sacred stone where Inca priests held ceremonies for the sun god. It was also used as an astronomic observatory. After visiting the archaeological site, we will go to the Andean market of Pisac, the biggest artisanal market in the region.

Transfer to the village of Ollantaytambo, where there is an archaeological site of importance, which the Spanish conquerors called "La Fortaleza" (the fortress).

4:36 p.m.  : Departure on board the Inca Rail train No. 45 to the village of Aguas Calientes.

6.09 p.m.  : Arrival in Aguas Calientes, reception by the staff of the lodging and time to settle in at the accommodation of our selection.

Day 12

AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - OLLANTAYTAMBO - CUSCO (3400M)

We will discover one of the most beautiful world wonders, "Machu Picchu".

Depending on the time that has been coordinated with our guide, we will take a bus from Aguas Calientes to the foot of the archaeological site* where we will visit and learn more about this citadel, its Inca people and its culture.

*Optional: Ascent to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, depending on availability. (Cost of 25 USD / Person)

The citadel is divided into two sectors:

The agricultural sector is surrounded by a succession of terraces of different types and sizes. It houses 5 magnificent attics called Colcas.

The urban area, contains the main architectural elements of an Inca city. The city is U-shaped and in the north there is a large religious area, while in the south, there is a residential city. In this area, we will be able to see the Intiwatana, considered by many as the solar clock of the Incas. Given its location, it is believed to have been a sacrificial altar.

Day 13

CUSCO - CHINCHERO - MORAY - MARAS - CUSCO

8:30 a.m.: Discovery of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will depart in a shared vehicle towards Chinchero. It is an authentically indigenous village, specialized in the manufacture of textiles and dyes, a village that has many circular agricultural terraces of great fertility extending to the side of the mountain.

We will depart to the Moray site. This place is presented as a main amphitheater and two secondary, smaller ones nearby. They are made up of several terraces arranged in a concentric circle. It is said to be an Inca agricultural research center where cultural experiments were practiced.

Located a few minutes away from Moray, we will visit the salt mines of Maras, which are salt terraces with thousands of bins fed by two sources with a very high concentration of sodium chloride. Still in use until today, the salt mines date back to pre-Inca times and have been developed over time.

Transfer to the village of Ollantaytambo, where there is an archaeological site of importance, which the Spanish conquerors called "La Fortaleza" (the fortress).

Return to Cusco and time to settle in at the accommodation of our selection.

CUSCO - LIMA / INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE
